To clean your pearl jewelry at home, gently wipe pearls with a soft, lint-free cloth. We’d recommend a microfibre or a jewelry cloth. This will help to remove body oils, sweat and residue. To help care for your jewelry, always put your pearls on last, after applying makeup, perfume, hairspray or lotion, and take them off first when undressing to avoid chemical exposure. Pearls are highly sensitive to acids, alcohol and ammonia, so avoid contact with cleaning products, perfumes and even excess sweat where possible. Don’t shower, swim, or bathe while wearing pearls, as the moisture can weaken the thread if they’re strung and damage the nacre.
As with all jewelry, we would recommend retaining the box received with purchase to store your pearl jewellery separately from other pieces in your collection. Our boxes have been perfectly designed to store your jewellery in, saving it from being knocked or damaged by other jewelry items. Avoid storing pearls in hot or overly dry conditions, as this can dry out the nacre and cause cracking. With pearl necklaces, lay strands flat to avoid stretching the silk thread over time.
Your jewelry’s certification should identify your pearl’s authenticity. If you do not have certification, there are a number of tests you can do at home but we’d recommend speaking with a jeweller to avoid causing any damage to your piece.
Pearls have long been treasured for their wonderful colours and shine, but some also believe that they represent wisdom and strength. Some see the time it takes for an oyster to create a pearl as a metaphor for the knowledge gained through patience, while its harsh creation conditions represent resilience. For those celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary with their partner, jewelry items with gemstones are popular pearl wedding anniversary gifts. Pearls are also the gemstone for those born in June.
